There are two types of flash memory available. These are NOR and NAND. The former will allow you to access memory from any location through the uses of the full address as well as data busses. In addition, NOR comes with long write and erase times. Since there is no need to regularly updated the files that NOR can hold, it is a better replacement for the older ROM chips. On the other hand NAND has much faster write and erase times, but it doesn’t allow any kind of random access.

Though the commercial flash memory drives come with guarantee for their block to be 100,000 times, there are no such guarantees for the other blocks. Moreover, the flash memory is usually in the form of thin clients and routers. And they are generally programmed once or for a few times at the most.

Though, the flash memory drives can be erased and rewritten for finite number of times, they are the most popular computer memory forms. Their ease of transport as well as their durability has actually outrun all their limitations.
